The sequence of terlipressin is based on lysine vasopressin with the addition of three Gly. Therefore, in clinical manifestations, terlipressin is degraded by enzymes in the body to produce active metabolites, with lysine vasopressin being the main active metabolite. Thus, the onset of action of terlipressin is relatively slow, but the duration of its efficacy is longer. The metabolite of trivasopressin, lysine vasopressin, is further degraded in the liver, kidneys and other tissues.
